    Stanalone DVD recorder Editing

    OK if i use a standalone DVD recorder to capture a complete tape from a DV cam corder what fromat would the files be? and are they then editable on the pc i.e. can u cut them and add titles etc.

    Any links to web articals on this subject would be nice

    Files recorded onto your standalone are in *.vob format and, unless you've set your recorder's audio differently, your audio is likely AC3 Dolby stereo.

    Below, I offer only a general guideline on how to do what you want, in order to keep this reply short, sweet and to the point.

    Different people have their favorite way of doing things, but here's how I get my files onto my PC:

    I use TMPGenc DVD Author to turn the *.vobs into MPEG-2 files, which I can then import into an editing program to cut out video material, add transitions, music, etc. and build a menu. After that's done, I use that program's burn function to burn the edited compilation onto a blank DVD.

    As for video editing programs, there are any number of them. I would recommend those programs that accept AC3 audio (sometimes referred to as Dolby) and MPEG-2 video files.
