Help - New to DVD Club

I just purchased the latest Sony DVD Burner and I heard today from a couple of guys that you CANNOT burn dvd movies. Is this true?
Has anyone been able to burn dvd movies? That's the reason why I bought the damm thing.
Let me know the FACTS...
