    Artifacts when using ReMpeg2

    I've got an MPEG2 file and I'm re-encoding it using "ReMpeg2" to fit on a DVD-R.

Most of the movie seems fine after encoding, but some parts of it produce artifacts/pixelation, when this occurs it's noticable at intervals. i.e. Every second the artifacts flash up, then back to normal, flash up, back to normal, and so on. It reminds me of the flashing due to macrovision, only this is pixelation, and the RIP had macrovision removed.

I disabled set max bitrate as I've heard some people had problems when this was set. But it occured for a second time, but at a different part of the film.

Any ideas what's causing this? Am I not setting something crucial?

    TIA

    rads,

I too have experienced some pixelation when using ReMPEG2. I think it's a price you pay when using this type of programme, however, it can achieve very good results as well.

What "scalefcator" did use to create your *.m2v file ?

The recommendations seem to suggest not to use a figure less than 80%. From the few films I have done so far, i would tend to agree.

Also "Frame Mode" can have an effect, if set to "progressive" try "match mode".
