Mac DVD burning to CD-R/RW??

I have a Mac and a plain CD burner and I would like to burn video to a CD that is playable in a DVD player.

I have seen various sites that reference this. Is this possible at all (i.e. on a PC etc)?

The jist was that a DVD is basicly just a huge CD that when formatted correctly is read by a DVD player.

Any insight would be great.
