Toshiba SD-R5002 2x burntime actually 1x??

How much time does a regular 4.36 GB DVD-R completly full take to burn at 2x?

I'm asking this because the way I calculate it out to be around 30 mins. I got to thinking this the other day when I was burning a DVD in nero when it said that it was burning in 2x mode. However It took 56 mins.

I tried Stomp RecordNow Max and it said that it would take 30 mins but when it got 98% done it just sat there still burning for another half hour and after about a full hour I had a burned DVD.

My Problem: The Toshiba is rated at 2x burning, the software (Nero and RecordNow) reports that it is burning in 2x mode, but I have 1 hour burn times. Am I doing something wrong? What can I do to fix this?


I'm running Windows XP
Nero 5.5.10.0
RecordNow Max 3.0
Burner: Toshiba SD-R5002
Princo cheapo DVD-R media (does that make a difference possibly?)

Ok here is more info

If I use DVD Decrypter's ISO burn function and I select 2x it starts burning but indicates that it is burning in 1x mode.

Why won't it go into 2x mode?
