Differences in legality question

Now i thought of a question today in school. everyone and i mean everyone know a days burns music cds or copies them. how much better are your chances of getting caught through burning dvds compared to music cds? is there any diffrence? if you just rip dvds, its considered the same as copying a cd right? is the chance of getting caught the same? and what is your chance?
