New user of DVD x Copy Express

As a new user of this program i am totally in the dark,prehaps o should have taken a bit of a lesson before buying it,anyway this programs says it can fit a dvd movie on to one dvdr disk but does not make it clear how it does it,does it compress the files auto or do i have to do something,if i do i cannot see what as it does not give a lot of options,sorry for sounding a bit thick,but as i said i am new to this backing up game.
