media or burn speeds effect quality?

Has anyone noticed any lack of image quality or color poblems with diffrent media or burn speeds. I am using a pioneer a06 with memorex media burning at 2x dvd-r. my backups even without compression still sufer from a certain amount of quality loss.

does removing audio or subtitles from the main movie in dvdshrink cause a quality issue?

What specific program(s) are you using to "Rip" the DVDs? The type (and brand) of media used will give a wide variance of results in quality as well as what kind of standalone player being used.

I have been usind dvd shrink and I copy only the dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack and main movie. I set the compression to none and use nero 6.3 ultra to burn the resulting disks with a pioneer a06u using memorex media at 2x (4x capable disks).

my dvd player is a samsung equipt with DCDI in progressive mode with a Mits 65 inch tv.

I wasnt sure if the dcdi chip or 1080i upconvert on the tv had a problem with the altered vobs.

Have you tried to do a "Full Disk" backup first in Shrink and then "Re-author" after that?

with the earlier beta I would drag the movie into the new re-author frame, with 3.13 I select the re-author tab and select only the main movie. I then de-select the audio and subtitles I do not use.

If the main movie requires compression I cut the subtitles from the title and attempt to get the highest possible percentage.
I allways do a deep analysis.

If no compression is needed I do a direct extract to my hdd and then burn with nero.

Is there a way to read the original and copied files to see if they are a true bit for it representation of the original?

I am going to start using dvd decrypter first and attempt to use nero recode and dvdshrink 3.13 with the same disk to see If I can see a diffrence.

I would "Rip" with DVD Decrypter in "File" mode to the HD. This will ensure that you will get "ALL" files not just the "Movie" files.
