Problems with a back up

I'm trying to back up a new DVD I just bought, "The Missing". It plays in my DVD Player, but is not reconginzed by my PC or Laptop. Does anyone have any ideas???

1) Not being a "wiseguy", but I'll ask, do you have BOTH a DVD player (or burner) AND DVD playback software installed?

2) Is the DVD of the same Region as the settings of your PC and laptop?
