Backup Widescreen DVDs don't look right

I'm using DVDShrink/Nero to backup my widescreen DVDs, and it looks like DVDShrink and/or Nero is converting my anamorphic widescreen DVDs to a 4:3 with letterboxes instead of encoding a true 16:9 DVD. Is there a way to change this so it plays correctly on my home DVD player?

I think the problem is with DVDShrink and not Nero, since I preview the video stream after encoding and it is letterboxed

    Any suggestions?

Have you actually BURNED and PLAYED one of these converted DVDs on your standalone DVD player, or are you basing your concerns ONLY on the appearance of the DVD Shrink preview?

      Widescreen looks funky on standalone

I'm basing the comparison on the following.

I watched a burned copy of the movie all the way through on my standalone player and thought it looked a little small--the letterboxing was at least twice as large as normal ~4 inches on top and bottom of a 32' TV (but the proportions seemed okay). I then took the original DVD and started playing it in the standalone player for comparison, not changing any settings on the standalone player.

The original DVD looked "normal". I'm not sure what's going on here.

      Thanks for your help.

        Another test

I also tried playing the copied DVD in my DVD-ROM drive. Using Roxio DVDMAX software, anamorphic widescreen DVDs usually play in a window with 16:9 proportions with no letterboxing. However, when I cue up the copied DVDs they are letterboxed. There must be a setting I've messed up, or I imagine someone else would have had this same problem since widescreen DVDs are so popular.

For more meaningful responses, I'd suggest that you re-post your question (and the additional information you've just posted here) in the DVD Shrink-specific sub-forum(s) here - and state which version of DVD Shrink you are using...
