New Problem??

I have been backing up my DVDs for a couple weeks using Shrink v. 3.1.4 and Nero Express 6. I backed up about 20 with no problems.

All of the sudden 2 days ago, I have been getting a 'Write Error' when burning. It happens at different times, everything from 1% to 84%. I have tried three different movies about 5 times each. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Shrink and Nero-no luck.

What could have happened? I copy the movie then delete all files, so I'm not filling up my hard drive. The computer is an island (no Internet, no new software, no other projects except backing up my DVDs). It has plenty of free space. Something obviously is working differently than it was a few days ago.

some types of software that you have actually have viruses in them that the maker of the software doesnot know about becuase the software is hacked by other companies, they are succesful putting the viruses on the software. that could have actually happened but it is a long shot. there could be a problem with either your HDD or something is starting to 'die' in your computer. the problem that could occur with your HDD is that segments of it might be starting to corrupt, this is quite common with HDD. also it depends on what type of HDD you have. Western Digital all the way for me, there is no problem with WD HDD. the other problem could be that something in your pc either on your motherboard or some other peripheral might be reaching a point where it 'dies'. this happend to me. had to buy a new motherboard and exactely the same thing happened to me as what is happening to you. solved the problem buy buying a new motherboard. don't take that as in you need to buy any new parts for your pc. the files you delete may be the problem aswell, this is because everytime you delete something off your HDD it leaves a blank space that cannot be filled up so it misreads and starts errors. that could be the real error. i am not saying it is the error, but it could be.

Most likely, you've gotten to some bad burnable media.

The other possibility, though less likely, is that your burner needs a cleaning. Maxell makes a DVD/CD cleaning disc that retails for approximately $10US.

What OS are you using? Are your opticals still showing as having DMA enabled in Device Manager? Have you changed media by some chance?
