DVD SHrink 3.1 not recognising external drive

I am very much new to DVDs and am not an advanced computer user. I have an external DVD writer through USB port. DVD Shrink 3.1 does not recognise this drive. Hence I do not get F: drive as an option for target drive when I try to copy.

Any suggestions!

Use Shrink to backup on your hard drive, and Nero to burn,and communicate with your external burner.

Not sure you can use Shrink to burn-I don't.
