    Simple Questions

Hi, I plan on getting an external dvd burner.

It generally takes me 40 minutes to backup a dvd to my harddrive with dvdshrink.

How long does it usually take to burn a dvd with menus and such?
Will special software be needed for burning the files?
What's the fastest dvd r /rw speeds on the market today?

Tired of the long encoding process and using cdrs for my movies.

You'll need Nero to burn the "Shrinked" files to blank disc.

Burn speed depends on 2x 4x or 8x burner-For me I use a 4x burner that works best using the 2x burn speed (dumbing down the speed a notch produces less coaster's).

My burn speed at 2x usually takes around 30 min (4x or 8x would burn faster).

Fastest DVD burner's are 8x for now I believe, but i'm not following hardware too closely.

I too use Nero to burn as a seperate step, but some people do not wish to spend the extra money to purchase Nero so you can also use Decryptor to burn in the ISO format and DVDDecryptor is free. My burn times run in the 20-25 minute range at 2x. Burning faster than 2-2.4x causes alot of problems for people.
