How to record short parts of a DVD???

Is there some software I can use to view a DVD and simply select a portion to record? I have software that can record whole DVD's and also specific tracks but this doesn't have the facility to select "start recprding" and "Stop recording" on - say a slider bar.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

You can use Smartripper to rip only the chapters you want and it will make the vob file structure you need so you can burn it successfully.
In the Smartripper settings goto the SPLITING subheading and select EVERY CHAPTER. Then just select the chapters you want to rip. Then burn them using the software of your choice.
