    Problem Compressing From Directory

I have backed up over 30 movies using dvd shrink, and ran into my first problem just the other day.

I received the famous "cyclic redundancy" error and couldn't figure out why. I checked these forums and it seemed like the most popular answer was to clean the dvd. I tried cleaning it several times with no luck.

Even though I could not get it to work using dvd shrink, I figured I would give copying all the files to my hard drive a try instead. That worked without any problems, and obviously without any compression.

Now I have all the files copied to my hard drive and would like to compress them so that they fit on my dvd+r 4.7gb media. I tried several methods and wasn't able to figure it out. I tried doing "Open Files" instead of "Open Disc" and it looked like it was going to work. After completion the new folder with the "compressed" files in it still were uncompressed.

Any ideas of how I could compress those files so that they will fit? Please let me know if you need any other information.

    Thanks in Advance,

I find that very unlikely. Are you sure you did not open the source files? I would understand if they were not compressed enough but not compressed at all I just cannot comprehend.

What method did you use to copy/rip the files to your hd?

Did you copy the files with a ripper or just drag & drop?

If the DVD you're using is a commericially produced one, then it likely contains CSS encryption, and I would be surprised that it is possible to do even so much as you described.

If this is the case, you might want to try using a DVD ripper such as DVD Decrypter to copy the files.

If the source disc isn't CSS protected, then I'm at a loss (unless you did something silly like picking "No Compression" in shrink which I hope you didn't)
