    codecs

I have downloaded several movies in a divx format. I have no prob converting anything that plays through Windows Media player 9.0 BUT.......When I am using my conversion program CUCUSOFT(yes I did download it) I am getting errors on some downloads that wont play on Media player because of missing codecs. I have downloaded codecs till my ba11S are blue and havent got it right yet. Any help is appreciated. And yes I am ROOKIE TO THE MAX!

(trying not to be too expletive. (ba11S) =me

It would not be wise to just "Download" and "Install" codecs for the sake of just having them. If anything, doing that could lead to system problems down the road. Load your Divx file(s) into "VirtualDubMod". Go to "File" > "File Information". Look under both the "Video" and "Audio" sections of the dialog and it will tell you what particular codec(s) that you need in order to play the file(s).

I've had some problems wth AVI's lately. They would crash any player and app I tried.

I uninstalled my Dvix codec and installed this:

FFDSHOW is a super-fast DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 movies and supports subtitles as well. If you ever want to watch movies, get this!

      All is good now.
