BTC DRW1008IM Burning @ Variable Speeds

I have had my BTC DRW1008IM Dual 8X drive for about 8 months now and have never had any problems with the resulting DVD+Rs when burning at 4X. I just recently bought an Epson R300 CD/DVD Printer and so I also decided to buy some inkjet printable DVD+R and since the price difference between the 4X and 8X was about 5 cents a disc, I decided to give the 8X a try. They are the Prodisc-R03-03 and are fully supported at 8X according to BTC, but according to DVD Decrypter the disc burns at 4X for the first 30% then burns at 6X up until it gets to 80% which is where it starts to burn at 8X for the remainder of the session. Nero lets me chose 8X but it takes as long as DVD Decrypter so I know it's not burning at a constant 8X. When playing the resulting disc on my JVC DVD player, I don't see anything wrong with it but when I play them in my Pioneer DVD player it seem that during the last 15-20 minutes of the movie, the video starts to look as if it is still encrypted (choppy sound, jerky video, very pixelated). It seems as if its in the area of the disc where it started to burn at 8X. Both DVD players are standalone players and played all DVD+Rs fine when they were burnt at 4X. The main reason for this post is to find out why my drive cannot start at a certain speed and stay at that speed. It always starts at 4X and I'm sure if I would select 4X as my max speed it would stay constant at 4X but I'd like to burn at 6X or 8X from beginning to end. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. FYI, like I said earlier, I am using a BTC DRW1008IM Dual 8X with firmware v.0059 on Prodisc-R03-03 8X DVD+R.

This is normal starts @4x then 6x finishes @8x. So a full disc @8x should take about 9.30 mins.Last 15 mins of video sounds like dodgy media, check for errors with dvdinfopro or run Nero CD speed.
