Data backup to DVD-RW

I have a Pioneer A05 burner and Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0. I can write DVD-R read only DVDs but what I also want to be able to do is write to DVD-RW disks for data backup. My present software doesn't do this; is there software out there which would enable me to do this? I envision being able to drag and drop folders onto the DVD-RW disk each day, overwriting files with revised files and thus keeping a backup disk. Is this even a good idea or should I get an external hard drive to backup my data?

I'm pretty sure Roxio WILL allow you to do this - You just have to FORMAT your R/W DVD, so that it is then seen as if it were a hard drive...
