Adding and Removing files from DVD-RW?

Im trying to store all of my "stuff" on one DVD-rw adding and removing things as I go, can I do this or do I have to erase the dvd-rw and start all over when I want to add/delete something?
Do I have to change the dvd-rw to a certain format?

If you burn the disc as a multisession you can keep adding to it.
But you need to copy it back to the hard drive to change whats already on it.Then re burn.
