    new to this

hello, im obviously new, but what is the PIO and DMA everyone refers to..i may know it as something else, or be ill-learned...anywho, i got a new dell 9100 with 3.2 ghz ht p4, and a gig of ram and an 8x dvd+rw nec 6100 that reads at 10x, burns at 8 dual layer....haha....and using the newest dvd shrink, it takes around an hour to rip, or it takes 15 minutes.....why is that? and to burn it to the hard drive, it takes hours? is this right, can i fix the time to be faster?

All you need to know is that setting your drives to DMA-on results in MUCH faster data transfer than does a PIO setting...
