Only 2 channel sound in burned dvd?

When I backup my dvd using DVDshrink and Nero 5.5, and play it in my stand alone player, there is only 2 channel sound. Even when I just extract the AC3 5.1 channel stream. I do have the AC3 plug-in for Nero.
Any suggestions?

I figured the problem out. Since I only backed up the movie itself, to save on compression. The movie starts to play as soon as inserted in the standalone player. What one has to do is stop it and change the sound mode. This is true for my standalone, might work differently on other. Once the sound mode is changed the movie works great with 5.1 channel sound
