Ltbx. TV to DVD

How would you take a letterboxed TV show that was captured at 720x480 and burn it to DVD so that it is anamorphic widescreen on a 16:9 TV? I tried burning it through Nero with the 16:9 setting but it was just centered in the middle of the screen, with black all around. I'm sure it's a basic question, but... Thanks for any help.

Assuming the file is in .AVI format (Otherwise change references of ".AVI" to ".MPEG"), one set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)


**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress


If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

Thanks for the quick reply - I downloaded TMPGEnc but was having a problem with (now I'm not at my home computer so I'm quoting from memory) the P3LL package...? something like that.

Is TMPGEnc a program that installs as a program (eg. add/remove program) or is it just an application - because I downloaded it and opens it, but it isn't in my list of programs. I will look into it a little more, though.

Quick revision: I downloaded the Plus version and it already seems different than the one I previously downloaded. Thanks again...

For some reason I couldn't get the TMPGEnc to make the DVD anamorphic. Any suggestions on the the settings.

This is what I did (for better or worse), using the wizard:

1. DVD for NTSC (16:9)

2. Dragged in my letterboxed MPG file and set the aspect ratio for 16:9, leaving interlace/top field A, all other settings alone.

I did several tests in the advanced setting, but was unclear where the change is made - is it in the video arrange method? Also, the "source aspect ratio" - is that what my file is or what I'd like it to become?

Sorry for spazzing out, but it's a little bit confusing.
