I have always used Ritek 4x DVD+R media for backing up my movies. Since the price of the 8X disks has dropped I'm considering moving to these. Will any burner back up at this speed or are some burners limited to 4X? Also, if some are limited, will the 8X media still work in the burner, just at the slower 4X speed?

Your burner needs to be able to write at x8 for you to write to x8 speed media. Although by doing this you will only save yourself 7-8 minutes. I have an x8 speed writer but write at x4 speed or slower.
The x8 speed media should still work, although ensure you are running the most up to date firmware.
Although if you have a working combination why complicate things?

Thanks for the info. How can you determine the maximum speed of your burner. I have no idea if it's x8 or x4. Thanks!Comment

It's Lite-On. I'm not sure what model; I'm not at my computer right now to be able to check. It's about a year old.Comment
