    Burn speeds... do they matter?

I have a brand new Pioneer DVR-108 (manufactured November 2004) using hacked firmware (http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/) version 1.14 and I'm burning on Verbatim DVD+R 8X media.

With the official Pioneer firmware version 1.18, I could burn up to 12x on this media, with the hacked firmware, I can now burn 16x with the same media. I've been burning at 16x even though the media is rated at 8x.

Does the burn speed REALLY make a difference? I haven't had any problems so far, but I wanted to know if it actually DID make a difference or not... I'm new to DVD burning, though not computer inept at all, I do programming in C#... heh, so that's why I'm asking such a possibly obvious question.

As long as your burning is ok - you can check it out with this program: www.dvdinfopro.com and use the option "check for CRC errors" and you can watch them - I can't see that there is any problem for you.
