HOW to resize DVD-Recorder output (352x576 to 352x288)

Hi Folks!

So i have this new Panasonic DVD Recorder - it ouputs 352x576 sized (interlaced) video in LP recording mode (= 2 movies on one DVD-R). My goal is to get 4 Movies to one DVD-R.

I want to downsize this format to 352x288 to save space. I want to use MPEG2 to have VBR (instead of VCD MPEG1 fixed Bitrate).

I dont have Windows XP.



My questions:

Does the resizeing make sense (=save Space)?

Which [freeware] Software would do this?


...in the moment I'm trying DVDShrink, but it does not change the resolution. (?)

OK - I found a solution for myself:

I rip the .VOR files from the DVD-RAM and make .VOB files out of it. Next Step is to split these file(s) with DVD2AVI into a .dv2 file (which TMPEG can handle) and a .wav file. Last step is to process those files with TMPEG back to a nice MPEG2 (2 Pass VBR) file.

Quality is fine for TV and the file size is about 50% to 65%.
