i burned a dvd using an external dvd burner with my mac. i burned it using toast 6 titanium and it was edited in final cut pro 4 with the audio in AIFF format. it played back fine on any mac computers but when i went to go play it in my home dvd player there was no audio. now, i'm not sure if this is because i have to somehow do the audio and video separately or because of the audio format or what? pllleeeease help!

As setarip has speculated, the standard for audio in DVD-Video does not include AIFF.
Setarip has said, however, that an audio stream can be one of either AC-3 (Dolby), LPCM or DTS. This is not true. If a DTS stream is included, there is a requirement for AC-3 as well (sometimes also PCM is there, too).
SDDS is another optional format (not widely seen).
However, it is possible for a PAL disk to only have MPEG audio (hardly ever seen) whereas an NTSC disk MUST have at least AC-3 or PCM audio on at least 1 title.
Here is the spec, out of the horse's mouth.
This is quite a complicated area - but essentially, you will need to convert your AIFF to, something like AC-3. Try BeSweet - see my signature.
