windvd widescreen playback problems

Hello,I am new here.I am having a problem with burning dvd's with windvx.The movie appears very thin when i try to burn the movie.Looks fine up until then.I have played arround with vurtualdub.seems to take forever to complete the process,and when i do.i can't apply it.Is there a more practical way to fix this problem.Is vurtual dub the only way?I have spent hours trying to fix this.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums. Have you converted the original DVD file structure of the movie(s) you are dealing with to edit in VirtualDub?

No.These are movies I get from news groups and so on.I go to vurtualdub.resize the hight.Then let it play.It takes the whole time of the movie to complete.
