    messed up frame counts

I've been having quite a bit of frustration lately trying to convert to divx, and I've noticed something and I'm not sure if it's normal or not. basically, looking at the log files created by smartripper, the number of frames reported ends up giving a video length different than the length of the audio, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. the only way to get them the same length is to use a framerate slightly above or below 23.976, but even when I try that the audio/video synching is either way off or starts off good but progressively gets more and more off.

is the number of frames correct? or is it supposed to be such that # of frames / 23.976 = movie length exactly? this is all weird because last year there were no problems, it's only now that I've starting doing divx again I've been unable to get a decent AVI...
