    Smaller????

I have a DIVX Avi ( DIVX 4 ),it is a 689mb file. Is it possible for me to keep the same video quality and make this file smaller than 300 mb's?

i would say no if the sound isn't very bad compressed. To begin with you can lower the bitrate and frequency of your sound. This should lower your final size. Also you can try to reencode but this will garranty picture quality loss.

A definite no. To begin with, you have 689MB of a file that you wish to shrink to no more than 300MB. That's 389MB of reduction (More than 50%)! In order to achieve that, you need to reduce the resolution and video bitrate by about half as well. That results in a loss of quality. MP3 files for movies are usually no bigger than 200MB and reducing its quality even to the lowest possible will not give the desired 350MB+ reduction.

The only possible way would be to direct stream copy parts of the movie so that you get only the essential parts of the movie and keep the same quality. However, for a 300MB movie, this is near impossible without having to remove a large part of the movie. The only choice left to you, I'm afraid, is to reencode the movie at a lower bitrate and resolution.

Unfortunately, I don't do VCDs so I dare not comment much on it. I'll have a look at your post anyway and see if there's anything I can help with. There should be other posters who can answer the question. Visit www.vcdhelp.com and see if there's something that relates to your problem.
