    Cannot convert AVER-TV generated MPEG-II video to DivX

    I am using an AVER-TV card to capture video.
    The source is Coaxial cable (cable television).
    I am capturing to MPEG II format (the card allows me to capture to MPEG I or II).

    Here is my problem:
    I cannot convert the MPEG II files to DivX. I am using FlaskMPEG (tried both versions). FlaskMPEG can open the MPEG II file just fine, but does not encode it correctly (AVI output has very distorted audio and the video has long 2 second pauses every 30 frames or so).

    I should note that I have no such problems with MPEG II files from any other source (ripped DVDs, etc.)

    I have tried tweaking all of the settings on my capture card (not many to choose from). I've tried both versions of FlaskMPEG. I've tried both DivX 3.x and 4.x. I've tried tweaking just about all of the settings in FlaskMPEG that I can think of. All with the same result.

    I HAVE found one "solution" (though not an ideal one). If I pass my captured MPEG II file through TMPGEnc, I can then use the newly created MPEG II file correctly with FlaskMPEG. However, this "solution" of passing the MPEG II file through TMPGEnc degrades the video quality somewhat and almost always leads to audio sync problems.

    Any suggestions?

    (f.y.i. -- I have a fair amount of experience in converting Mpeg to DivX, but am new to video capture)

    Thanks in advance!!

    Try using TMPGEnc in a different fashion, as follows:

    File>>MPEGTools>>Simple Demultiplex
    Save separate video and audio streams

    Then, File>>MPEGTools>>Simple Multiplex
    Make certain "Mode" is set to MPEG2 (NOT MPEG2-SuiperVideoCD)
    Save with a new filename

    This should not result in any degradation whatsoever (since there is no conversion process) and should hopefully resolve the problems you've described.

    Let us know of your success ;>}
