Not sure this is in the right place, but have a question on recording streams.

Are there any programs for recording streams so you can save them to your HD? I know of Streambox VCR, but it seems that is now illegal in the U.S. because Real sued the makers for creating software for breaking copyright. They no longer support the program even though you can get it from other places. But they don't support registering it, so registry cracks don't work. Any other programs out there anyone can let me know about?
