You can use a bitrate calculator to "predict" the final avi size.
With this you put the length of the movie (in minutes) and you get a bitrate to use with the compression program (like flaskmpeg). There are plenty of different calculators for divx 3.11 or 4.xx codec. You van find this software at divx-digest.com.
Also at nicky's pages you can find guides on how to use calculators.
Or as khp said you can cut the avi using virtual dub.
Ive got the advanced bit rate calc and I did put the info in and it gave me a bit rate which I used in flask. I selected 1 80min cd and the end file size was 1.38 gb...... I dont mind that becus I no now how to split the file I just wanted to see what the qulity was like of the file that would fit on one disk...
out of intrest what do most people do? do most go for putting it all on one cd or do most have bigger files and put it on 2 cds?.....
thanks for your post
