    New to this

I am wondering why some DVD's rip really good (using Super DVD Ripper with the DivX codec) and others get really narrow. I watch the movies on my PC with a 19" monitor and the good movies are about 7 inches of viewable content, while the others are about 5 inches. I always check the box to convert 16:9 to 4:3, whatever that means, but if I don't check that box on the 5 inch movies they go over 7 inches but the the picture quailty is really bad. Just wondering why this happends and if there is anyway to fix it. Sorry if I didn't explain this very well, but I am new to alot of the terminology.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

Well some movies are recorded as really really wide screen (I don't know the exact aspect ratio). And instead of cropping of the edges (yuckk!!) they add black borders to the top and buttom of the screen.

Using this really really wide format is done, to make the cinema version of the movie look better than the video (or DVD) version.
