AVi Info Problem

I recently downloaded Rainman, which is slightly to big to fit on one CD. To reduce the file size i compressed the audio to mpeg layer 3, this suffieciently reduced the file size but during the last ten mins the audio becomes out of synch.
I have used AVI info and solved the synch at the end but now all the audio is out of synch during the rest of film.

Does AVI info actually work?! I have had problems with strectching before and the above 'shifting of synch' always happens, and hi have tried it many times on different films.

If some one could tell me what im doing wrong to cause the synch problem during compression or how to get AVI Info to do what it it claims to do i would be most grateful.

HI, is really weird, I have used avi info many times without problems but just to see the asynch value. What I do is:
Demultiplex the audio stream
Use cool edit to stretch the audio (according to the avi info asynch value)
Multiplex the video and the new fixed audio stream using avi-mux gui

Anyway if avi info doesn't works for you, you can try YAAI from http://yaai.sourceforge.net/
