First Keyframe seems not to appear after encoding

I'm trying to encode a movie that I got from someone else, who
captured it from his DV-out. It's fairly low quality but encoded
with a crappy mpeg codec so pretty big in size. I'm trying to
encode it using virtual dub, but every time it's done encoding the
first keyframe just isn't there, and it creates the rest of the video
without the 1st keyframe. Now my question is, what the hell am I
doing wrong? I bet it's something pretty damn simple, perhaps in
the codec settings, but I just can't figure it out. It doesn't matter
which divx codec I use, divx 5.0.5 or divx mpeg-4 Fast-Motion.

Oh yeah, and I also encoded another movie, that I didn't get in
that crappy mpg format, and I didn't have this problem there but
that's been like 2/3 weeks now.

    Please help....

That sound rather bizzare, not to mention extremely unlikely.
Might I ask how you came to the conclusion, that it's not making the first frame a key frame ?
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
