    variable resolution ?

Could it be possible to encode movies using a variable resolution ?
A low motion scene would get high 720 resolution for a sharp image and the fast motion scenes about 480 or 520 res.

    Perhaps some experts know ?

In one avi-file the resolution must always be the same. If you really want that you need to save the scenes with different resolutions in different files and play them one after the other.
But as you might have seen the codec makes that automaticly. If there is a lot of motion in the scene the pixles get bigger and bigger. That has the same effect as if you lower the resolution of the avi itself.
