PC Reboots when encoding

Hi, im hoping someone can help me with my problem.
My pc reboots when im encoding, it started a couple months ago when i was encoding an avi to dvd. i didn't think much of it, but now i cant even encode dvd to divx ive tried a number of programs but always the same result my pc reboots. help please...

you should have told us a little bit more about your system and the software that you use for encoding.
please be more specific in describing your problem.
with almost no information at all it is very hard to figure out
whether the crash is caused by software problems or by hardware problems!


what exactly does the computer do?
does it display any error message?
or does it simply power down as if you had hit the hardware reset button?
if the first one is the case please submit the Error Message.


it may be that your software causes the problem.
but in this case there should at least be an error message.
to make sure if this is the case use another software for encoding.
if the problem persists it may be that the problem this hardware based


it can be that you might have at temperature problem.

encoding a video is a task that stresses the CPU as well as the hard disk. to make sure whether it is a heat problem or not open the case of your computer and cool it somehow while encoding.
may be let a desktop fan blow directly into your computer case.
when the heat is growing too high the CPU becomes unstable
and quits working without any error message
if the problem persists it might be that your power supply unit
is too weak. in this case use a stronger one.
maybe you can borrow one from one of your friends for testing purposes.

if you really have a heat problem the problem should cease when you open the case and use at desktop fan to cool your machine.
but this is only to determine if there is a heat problem.
this is not a permanent solution!!
because doing this over several days blows a lot of dirt into your computer.

in case of a heat problem install another case cooling fan.very good ones can be obtained for about 20 dollars.
