    Without DVD_Room

    HI!!!!!!
    I would like to know if it's possible do make a copy of a DVD using my normal drive. I want to make a divx movie to put it on a sinlge cd.
    My problem is that i don't have a DVD-Room.....It's possible to do that using my normal drive?

    No, except...

    I read about some dvd-rom-manufacturers that also produce cd-roms. For cheaper production their cd-roms have the same hardware as the dvd-roms except that the dvd-ability is disabled. There are some guides how to reenable the dvd-function. I don't know anything else about that, so you will have to find it out on your own.

      As far as I'm concerned, DVD drives use laser heads with differing laser intensity (or frequency, perhaps) that can access the different depths in the DVD disc layers. Normal CD-ROM drives lack these and hence will NEVER be able to access DVD discs.

      If what Benderman says about these "cut-down" version of DVD drives is true, it would be a good thing to find one and be able to defeat the mechanism that disables them from reading DVD discs. However, it may not be easy and it would probably be a better idea to get yourself a late-model (read: cheap) DVD drive.
