I read some forum articles about the vite and dominion rips. I have their Bones rip is it is top quality like some of you have said, but my rips are just as good as theirs. I think it's all because of the low resolutions I use in my movies. I use flaskmpeg 0.60 preview with the thunder.mism inclusion and rip my movies in divx low motion at 999 keyframes, 75 quality, & 1200 data rate. 999 keyframes helps the divx scene-detect patch do its job. For example, the properties for Kid With The Golden Arms (a 1977 run run shaw kung fu flick) are as follows:

191 kbps mp3 (using lame 1.91 encoder (razor lame gui))

video:
29 fps, 163 kbps data rate, 24 bit video sample size, 336x176 resolution

I have a 64 mb GeForce2 MX with TV Out (S-Video), so when i connect it to my tv the picture looks even better than it does on my computer monitor. What I'm trying to say is don't worry about ripping at the higher resolutions like 720x480, 640s, 500s, etc. Just work with the 352x288 default that flaskmpeg has and crop and letterbox your movie u want to and achieve "your" best settings. Not everyone has the same hardware to experience what the other guy is looking at. Just always "keep the aspect ratio" and everything will be fine. Also, the smaller resolutions are faster for flaskmpeg. I have a P4 1.6ghz, 512mb ddr ram @ 233mhz, 2 40.0gb hard drives and it took me just 1 hour and 27 minutes to rip that^ 1 hour and 15 minute long movie. Hope this helps you out. I think we are all speaking of the sharpness and 'goodness' of rips in terms of computer screens though. TVs are low-resolution and hence you will not be able to see any difference in resolutions as easily as you would on computer screens. Not everyone outputs their DivX to TV for different reasons. For me, the TV is just too far away from my computer and the long cables do not do my home decorations any justice.

There is a marked difference between the resolution you use and the higher resolutions that these 'rip-groups' use. Also, your bitrate is used much less effectively, being done in 1-pass mode only, compared to the 2-pass mode of the superior nandub. In your case of small resolution, it does not really matter indeed, but it does for the higher resolutions.

One last thing, can you actually fit 719MB onto a CD-R?
