To crop or not to crop

Should you crop or not when going to vcd/scvd?

I have a dvd and have used smartripper to rip it and then the dvd2avi/vfapi option.

The file was then loaded into nandub and I cropped the movie and then resized it a bit. Then I performed the first pass. Then I read on Nickyguides that you shouldnt crop if you intend on making a vcd as standalone players wont accept a cropped vcd.

Before I go on to do the 2nd pass - Is this right??

Or should I redo the first pass without the cropping.

    thanks for any info

No. If you configure TMPGenc properly for compliant MPEG1-VideoCD format, your standalone (if it accepts your brand of Cd-R, or CD-Rs at all) will accept it. However, you'll probably be disappointed to see the distorted image that appears on your TV, as a consequence of the cropping...

      Thanks setarip.

Thats helpful. So essentially its my choice as to whether I want the distortion or not, which frankly I can do without.

      Thanks again

Setarip, just wondering (sorry for the dumb question), will this also work for SVCD?
