No video when avi is converted to mpg. Please Help!!!

Hi, I don't get any video when I convert an avi movie to an mpg; but I do get the audio when I play the mpg file that is created. I've tried several programs but still have the same problem. Please help me I'm really stuck.

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

uninstall the DIVX 5 codec and install teh DIVX v4.11 or 4.12 codec. This WILL solve the problem.

The video was created using the DivX v.5.0 codec, which, as far as I know, TMPGEnc and similar MPEG-related conversion programs cannot (presently) handle.

You would have to convert the file to one compressed using either the DivX v.3.11 or 4.12 codecs as follows (assuming you have one of these codecs installed on your system: To change codecs (compression) used:

          1) Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

          2) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

          3) Set "Video" to "Full Stream Processing"

          4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, click on "Compression"

          5) Select the DivX v.3.11alpha (or 4.12) codec - If possible, set the adjustable settings to the same as the original file

          6) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and enter a new filename for the modified file

setarip, u do not need to do this.

            try this urself:

get a DIVX 5 encoded movie

load in TMPGENC, u will discover no video but only sound

            uninstall the DIVX v5 codec
install the DIVX v4.11 or v4.12 codec

load the file in TMPGENC and audio + sound will appear.

            Believe me, it has worked
