problem opening mpeg in nandub

I want to encode a episode of Dark Angel that I have in mpeg to DivX, the problem is sometimes when I open it I get a acess vialoation and when I try to encode the second pass of it, if I finally get it open I get the same error. The really strange thing is that I can open it in Virtualdub and encod using both 3.11 and 5.0.2.

What might be the problem? Can anyone please help me?
