audio gradually goes out of sync

i have a movie from a buddy of mine and the audio is right on at the beginning but later in the movie it goes completly off. it is a gradual thing, not all at once. i am using 5.02 codec to decode, but i dont' knwo what was used to encode it. i can't even watch the last 15 min of it b/c it gets so bad. anyone please help. if i missed a thread that gives the answer i'm sorry for posting a redundant question, but i believe i looked through anything that seemed relevant. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Your system may be having a hard time dealing with the overhead required to playback the 48,000Hz frequency audio. Try using VirtualDub to change the frequency to 44,100Hz (Make certain "Video" is set to "Direct Stream Copying" and "Audio" is set to "Full Processing Mode")...
