Transfer DivX video to DVD problems

I have transferred several DivX movies to DVD and everything seems to start off ok but at the near end of the movie the Video becomes frozen and the sound keeps playing. This has become a wasted effort for me. Is there any fix for this? plus any reason why a DviX movie will play fine as a stand-alone file versus being transferred to DVD format?

Will appreciate any help.
