Grey instead of white!?

Recently I found that when I play back .avi's I see a light grey instead of white. What are some possible causes of this?

Play the AVI in WMP 6.4 or BSPlayer (or any players that allow you to access the decoder properties). Go to the decoder's property and try loading the defaults.

Actually, this happens in any video file that i look at that was recorded using HyperCam. Before, the background would show up white. I think this problem started happening after I installed the codecs and filters needed to play .ogm files, but even after uninstalling and reinstalling everything it still appears grey
