computer locks during playback of video

I have a windows xp professional.I updated my windows media player,i have divx 5.0.3,antifreeze,ffdshow,xvid,nimo lite pack installed.
My graphic card is nvidia GeForce2 mx 400 and a p4 1.5GHz.
Problem is that when I start Terminator 3 it goes for some time and then the picture freezes and the sound goes on for about a minute and then the system resets.I updated my nvidia detonator drivers and it didnt solve the problem.I dont think it is a problem with OSD because the whole system freezes.
please anyone HELP!!!!

try to open avi file in VirtualDub; Video-direct stream copy, audio direct stream copy, Save as avi
see if the resulting file will do the same.

if yes check for conflicting codecs/filters
