Prob with codecs

Trying to play a movie on the pc/xp through WMP but getting the error msg" WMP encountered an unknow error" which I presume is a codec error. Iwas also trying to convert this file earlier on the same pc into an divx file so it will play on my stand alone dvd player but getting similar probs saying "unable to open due codecs not installed". The strange thing is Gspot is saying codecs are installed, any ideas

If it's an illicit file that you've downloaded, there's a possibility that it's a fake file...

Install the FFDShow filter - If the file is real, that should enable playback...
