translating subtitles in movies

Hi,

There are movies out there that have actors speaking lines in foreign languages, when the movie itself is in English.

What process should I complete to have those translations only embedded into a DivX file? Thanks.

PS. I use Gordian KNot 0.33.1 for encoding.

The only way I have worked out is to rip the subtitles using subrip 1.17 and manually edit all the lines not relating to a translation of language out. It ain't fast to do, folks.

There must be a better way. Ideally I would like it to be inseted into the Matroska container so I don't have to burn a separate *.sub file.

nb. In the Bourne Supremacy's subtitles any speech relating to translation is precluded with the language spoken in brackets before the lines (eg. (Russian) "dialogue"). Is this standard practice? I hope so because it made it MUCH easier to edit.

There is a subtitle stream of its own dedicated to these translations. It will usually be a very small English stream. IT is easily identified in a SW player (as it is usually turned on by default) or even DVD Shrink.

Use subrip on the smallest English stream you can find. Say bye bye to all that manual editing

EDIT: Typically, this is the last stream. This is the streams from The Alamo. Note The 2 English streams at the start (one regular subbies, the other is For Hearing Impaired). The 3rd stream is the translations and it is right at the end. But it can be anywhere. The fact is it is a very small stream in Mb (like <1Mb compared to 4-6Mb).

While I've got your expert eye. Don't 'pose you know of a programme that will embed the created *.sub file into a Matroska container?

I've tried AVImuxGUI but it won't open in Zoomplayer even though it is configured for .MKV playback. Also tried MKVMerge to no avail. Cheers.
