poor quality avi playback in WMP 7 ONLY??

i recently had to format my system. after reinstalling WinME and DivX, i attempted to playback some of my AVI files that previously worked fine. MPGs work fine, but AVI files look "washed out" and pixelated with swirly garbage when played in Windows Media Player 7 -- they look fine when played back with The Playa or virtualdub. How can i fix this?

Get the newest drivers for your graphics card, and install Directx8.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

drivers are the most recent NVidia drivers and DX is 8.1. still no dice. as i said, the AVI files play fine in players other than Windows Media Player 7. It has to be a configuration issue (wrong codecs or something) as this problem didn't exist before i formatted and reinstalled WinME.

What codec version are you using? And is it the same version as the one you were using previously?

figured it out. for some reason WMP needs the desktop to be in 32bit... 16 is too low. weird that it looked fine in The Playa tho. anyway -- there's the solution if anyone needs it.

You wouldn't happen to be using either the DIvX 4.x or 5, would you?
