    ReMPEG problem

I have a strange problem with ReMPEG. Several movies i transcoded already without any problem and a few weeks ago the problem started. When ReMPEG has finished his long job and I take a look at the m2v-file it is all very pixelized. Like it was very much compressed. Does anyone has a clue what's going wrong here? I have the following settings : Output resolution : 720*576 - Frame mode : Match Source - Search Technique : Prediction - v before half pel - Brightness : 0 - v before high quality scaling - Perfomance : integer DCT - Calcute PSNR, Show RC info and use ISSE marked ON.

    Tnx, Bart

the only time i ever get pixels on my movies from rempeg2 is when i go to low on the bitrate. maybe bump it up a notch and see if it goes away....or try tmpgenc.....i recently started going that route and it works great

I'm sorry I have to tell you that I already tried that one.
But because I tried a lot off different settings with ReMPEG, I'm quite fed up with it at the moment. So I liked your suggestion to migrate to TMPGENC. But can you give me a link to an easy howto because I found one, but frankly I don't understand a thing they explain there.

      Tnx, Bart

        here's what i do:
        1. rip it with DVDDECRYPTER in VOBs without all the extra subtitles and languages.

        2. run the VOBs thru DVD2AVI with forced film OFF at 29fps

        3. run the D2V and WAV files thru TMPGenc and you get a beautiful MPEG2 ready to be imported into an authoring program.

for the BEST settings in TMPGenc go to

do everything EXACTLY like it says to EXCEPT for the BITRATE setting.....set it as you would in ReMpeg2 because the setting in the manual is to get THE BEST.....well the best will be over 4.3G....so set it lower.....I just tried it this morning and got a great MPEG2 that imported in DVDit(which seems to crash with M2v files but likes MPEG2 files out of TMPGenc.....

hope this helps......any questions let me know.

another thing....ReMpeg2 is good...but TMPGenc is regarded as THE BEST or one of the best.....and the quality of the MPEG is alot better than if you just ran it thru ReMpeg2.......

i meant to rip with DVDDECRYTPER "without" all the extra languages and subtitles....so the files to work with are smaller.....alot of times you won't need to adjust the bitrate with all the extras taken out

              Thanx for all the info.
I'm running DVD2AVI as we speak and afterwoods I'll follow the link you gave me. But that will be something for tomorrow.
              I'll keep you informed.
